when we visited the Cathrinski Palace there were several rooms that were basically wallpapered in renaissance oil paintings.
That technique of hanging is called “Salon style.” UT’s art museum has done that in one room for a works-on-paper show it has going on, and it does not make for easy viewing, though it does give a good impression as to how the works were originally displayed.

“I believe what really happens in history is this: the old man is always wrong; and the young people are always wrong about what is wrong with him. The practical form it takes is this: that, while the old man may stand by some stupid custom, the young man always attacks it with some theory that turns out to be equally stupid.”
– G.K. Chesterton

This is what a total Solar eclipse looks in Antarctica, near the bottom of the world. It occurs when the dark silhouette of the Moon completely obscures the intensely bright light of the Sun. The sudden darkness lets the magnificent corona of the Sun become visible. Photograph by Fred Bruenjes.
